Where we work
We are aware that many companies spend large amounts of time bragging about how grand their facilities are, well we are a little bit different, we are a startup, and follow in the proud British tradition of the 'shed company', our workshops are certainly modest in stature, but this suits us perfect, no large spaces to heat, no expensive rent bills to pay, yet all the space we need. Our main 'working' space is split between two neighboring 'sheds', both with very different purposes.
The wood shed is a modest corrugate roofed building, like a miniature barn, and as draughty as they come, this is perfect for drying and storing all our raw timber. We also use this space for our larger saws so that we can deal with cutting wood to working sizes, keeping large lengths of wood out of the main workshop. We also use the other end of this space to deal with any cleaning, grinding and cutting of metal to keep any mess out of the main shed.
The main workspace is of a far warmer construction, thankfully, and aside from a few workshop consumables isn't used for any storage, just for nice 'clean' work, where we take products from raw materials right up to resembling a finished article. In here we use mainly hand tools, with of course a few exceptions, this leaves us with a space where we don't have any significant mess and dust to contend with. Once we're done with this workshop everything gets a good blow over with the air gun, before being transported to the super clean area.
The Office, which seems to have rapidly turned in to warehouse, is the final destination. This is a real multi use space; there is a small amount of final polishing done in here, the electrical work on the lamps is done on a station in here, as well as final packaging, storage and thankfully there is still a slither of space left for actual office work.
The final bit not mentioned is the sewing room, this is not belonging me however, this is at my parents house, and is sickeningly cozy compared with all my work spaces and is reserved solely for any textiles work, all carried out by my mother. She has spent most of her working life in textiles, and now semi retired has been charged with making an array of super durable and high quality products, which at time of writing this are still in the developmental stage, therefore you won't see these just yet, but they will be cropping up for sale in the future.
