Our ethos
As you may have guessed, we don't aim to design products which are pretty, at least not in the conventional sense, in fact, some might even call them ugly. The french have a phrase which summarizes our ethos perfectly 'le jolie laide' which literally translates to 'the pretty ugly', which we related so heavily to, it gave us our name. This idea of something being appealing and attractive irrespective of any flaws, is something we are big believers in and we hope that can be seen in all of our products.
Although a small family team, we come from a variety of professional backgrounds, and as such our product lines reflect this heavily, so expect to see a wide variety of materials used and products developed. Part of the joy we have is using materials which have already lived a life, meaning a mix of new and old materials, as well as some gently restored antiques or collectibles, mixed in with our regular product lines.
